Within this field, an inspiring and awaited surge in women’s engagement has emerged, marking a substantial shift in recent times.

In Nigeria, trailblazing women have made remarkable strides in robotics engineering and we take this opportunity to celebrate their achievements, while highlighting this country’s quest for technological excellence.

The Current State of Women in Robotics Engineering

Statistics show that women make up only 12.7% of the engineering workforce worldwide and in the field of robotics engineering; women represent an even smaller percentage. The International Federation of Robotics found that only 10% of roboticists are women, saying that the under-representation of women in this field needs attention.

However there are initiatives and organisations supporting women in this male dominated field to support and empower them. One such initiative is Women in Robotics, a global platform promoting women’s involvement in this field. The Association for Women in Science and Women in Engineering, offer support networks and resources. Furthermore, universities and institutions are implementing programmes to encourage women to pursue robotics engineering, aimed at addressing the gender gap and create inclusive opportunities for women in robotics engineering.

Ada Nwosu

Ada Nwosu

Born and raised in Nigeria, this brilliant robotics engineer showed an interest in engineering from a young age and excelled in mathematics and science. Nwosu completed her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at a prestigious Nigerian university and then pursued her postgraduate studies in Robotics Engineering at a renowned university in the United States.

Nwosu has made ground breaking contributions in the field of robotics engineering and has designed and developed robotic systems for various industries, including manufacturing and healthcare. Her work has focused on creating robots that can assist in repetitive tasks and improve efficiency, which

have greatly benefited industries by increasing productivity and reducing human error.

Challenges Faced and Overcoming Gender Barriers

As a woman in a male-dominated field, Nwosu has faced numerous challenges throughout her career, encountering scepticism and reluctance from colleagues who doubted her abilities. She was also subjected to gender bias, with some people questioning her suitability for robotics engineering.

Despite these challenges, Nwosu remained determined and worked extra hard to prove her competence and expertise and actively sought opportunities to showcase her skills and knowledge, gradually earning respect and recognition. She eventually became a role model for aspiring female engineers, demonstrating that gender should never limit one’s potential, inspiring others to persevere. She firmly believes that diversity in robotics engineering is crucial for innovation and progress.

Accolades and Awards

Nwosu’s perseverance and accomplishments have garnered international recognition, resulting in numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the field. She continues to push boundaries and explore new frontiers in robotics engineering, propelling the industry forward with her innovations.
